Jennifer L. Saffer

Jennifer L. Saffer, the principal of J.L. Saffer, P.C., is a litigator. Jen represents secured and unsecured creditors and other parties in interest in bankruptcy cases, corporate restructurings and related litigation in bankruptcy and other courts, and related appeals. Jen’s practice also focuses on federal and state court litigation involving fraud, misrepresentation, breach of fiduciary duty and general business disputes, and related appeals.

Jen has advised and litigated on behalf of parties in interest in bankruptcy cases including In re Enron Corp., et al. (an unofficial noteholder group; and defendants in various adversary proceedings); In re Adelphia Business Solutions (a DIP lender); In re Nextwave Communications (a bondholder); In re Frank's Nursery (an equity holder); In re Dana Corp. (a secured creditor); and In re Cross Media Marketing (the defendants in four adversary proceedings). She has been an attorney for official committees of unsecured creditors in several cases including In re Hedstrom (Delaware) and In re American Pad & Paper (Texas). She represents clients through all phases of creditors’ rights litigation, including appeals.

Jen’s appellate work includes complex individual chapter 7 issues and appeals arising from chapter 11 cases and from other litigation. Jen was of counsel on the brief of the amici curiae in support of the respondent in a case before the United States Supreme Court, State of Florida v. Piccadilly Cafeterias, Inc. (No. 07-312).

A versatile litigator, Jen represents clients in a wide variety of other types of civil litigation matters. For example, she recently represented the common law spouse of a decedent in New York County Surrogate’s Court in a proceeding to establish her right to share in the decedent’s estate, and obtained a seven-figure settlement for her client. Jen also recently undertook to assist, on a pro bono basis, the petitioners in Maron, et al. v. Silver, et al. (Index No. 4108-07), an Article 78 and declaratory judgment proceeding seeking salary relief for New York State Judges. She was one of the principal authors of the briefs submitted on behalf of the Judges to the New York State Supreme Court and to the Appellate Division.

Jen has served as a guest lecturer at St. John's University School of Law in New York. She contributes to such journals as the Annual Survey of Bankruptcy Law, the Norton Journal of Bankruptcy Law and Practice, and the Norton Bankruptcy Law Advisor.

Jen received her B.A., with high distinction, from the University of Kentucky in 1992 and she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She received her J.D., cum laude, in 1995 from the Boston University School of Law, where she served as Executive Editor of the Annual Review of Banking Law, and received several other honors. Before starting J. L. Saffer, P.C., Jen practiced at firms including Kronish Lieb Weiner & Hellman; Winston & Strawn; and Jenkens & Gilchrist Parker Chapin.

Jen is admitted to practice law in the State of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York.

She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the New York County Lawyers’ Association, and the Turnaround Management Association.

Scott A. Lucas (of Counsel)

Scott A. Lucas is of counsel to JLSPC. His practice focuses on employment law and he represents litigants in ERISA disputes, employment termination disputes and overtime litigation. Scott also represents clients in securities fraud and other fraud, misrepresentation and breach of fiduciary duty litigation, as well as general commercial litigation. Scott regularly litigates matters of all sizes in state and federal courts, and has extensive appellate experience. Scott also advises clients on employment matters and general business matters.

An experienced practitioner, Scott received his J.D. in 1994 from Brooklyn School of Law, and his B.A. from the State University of New York at Binghamton, in 1991.

Scott is a member of the New York State Bar Association, where he serves on its Committee on Civil Practice Law and Rules. He is also a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Scott is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and in the State of Pennsylvania, as well as in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Alyssa Wiener Rosenbaum (of Counsel)

Alyssa Wiener Rosenbaum is of counsel to JLSPC. She has practiced at the prominent Boston firm Choate Hall & Stewart and has also worked as corporate counsel for Lionbridge Technologies.

Alyssa's practice focuses on general corporate law, including debt and equity financing, mergers and acquisitions, and technology licensing, as well as entity planning and formation.

She was educated at Columbia University, receiving her B.A., magna cum laude from Barnard College in 1992, and J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1995. At Columbia Law School, Alyssa was a two-time Harlan Fisk Stone Scholar and was a member of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review.

Alyssa is a member of the Bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
